The most globally known feature of this island is the Itsukushima Shrine, best known as a torri gate rising out of the sea. It is also viewed as a shrine dedicated to Shintoism. Additionally, this island is a top destination for travelers due to its hiking trails that lead to the top of Mt. Misen, as well as the deer that roam around town. Many people tend to mingle with the deer, being that they have lost their fear of humans over time.
